A roof leak can damage ceilings, insulation and floors quickly. These four steps limit the damage until a roofer can get there.
Step 1: Protect what is underneath
Move furniture and electronics away from the drip and put down buckets and towels. If the ceiling is sagging with water, keep everyone out of the room.
Step 2: Release trapped water safely
If it is safe to do so, a small hole in a bulging ceiling lets the water drain into a bucket instead of bringing the ceiling down.
Step 3: Document the damage
Take photos inside, and of the roof from the ground, before anything is cleaned up. Your insurance company will want to see them.
Step 4: Call a roofer, not a ladder
Walking a wet roof is dangerous and DIY patches often trap water. A roofer can tarp the roof safely and find the real source of the leak. Call (480) 555-0148 and we will aim to tarp it the same or next day.
